WordPress or Custom Development - What Makes Sense for Your Business

Custom development means every part is built exactly for your process, with no compromises around someone else's plugin. It's a larger investment upfront, but the solution grows with you instead of boxing you in once you pass a certain point.

It makes sense when what you're building is the core of your business model, not a supporting presentation layer - a platform with user accounts, a booking system with specific rules, a product you'll keep developing for years.

There's also a middle path

The decision rarely has to be all-or-nothing. A common and reasonable combination is WordPress (or a similar platform) for the public side of the site - the presentation, the blog, SEO content - while the business-critical part, the one that directly carries your process, is built custom and connected to the public side. That way you're not paying for custom development on what a standard solution already handles well.
